My mother had made her mistake when she was a teenager. She got pregnant at eighteen and did not graduate from high school. She had to support her son to get by. Then she got pregnant again with me and my sister. She been struggling all her life to support us and I am glad that she did that for us. That is why she pressure me to have an education that I would not end up like her they way she was. I hope one day she would be proud of me because I would never give up I will keep trying as long it will take.

Parents mistakes
I think my parent's mistake did not have an effect on me because everybody makes there own decision. Like in our family we don't talk about the mistakes they've made we just see them. But by my parents making there mistakes i see how much it affected them and i think to myself i don't want to make the same mistakes. Like i think there mistakes don't have to haunt us because that was them and were us. And were allowed to make different mistakes not the same ones.
My Parents Affect
What effect--if any--do your parents' pasts have on your own life? Explain
My mothers past does have an impact in my own life because my mom was born in Mexico and came to the United States when she was about 7 years old with her older brothers and sister. My mom went to high school and graduated but it was rough for her because my mom got pregnant at age of 15. So high school was a challenge. My mom also went to collage but for two years only. My parents struggled to provide for my family. And my mom tells me that I need too do better then what she did and learn from her mistakes. She also tells me not too be in a rush too grow up.
My dads past does have an impact in my own life because my dad didnt finish high school didnt go to college. He had to drop out of high school because he had to work now that he had a family of his own. My dad really struggled because he came from a family that really didnt have money. He was mostly on his own. Now that my dad looks at me he really encourages me too continue on with school he always tells me education is your only way out to have success. And her reminds me that I have a lot ahead for myself.

Mistake!
My parents has a huge impact on my life, in a bad and good way. The bad way is that they both have bad attitudes and can get easily upset. I get upset very easily and have low patience which is NOT good at all. But my parents can be very loving and caring and will break their necks for me.
My mothers effect on my life... :D
I have to say my mom has always had a huge impact on my life. I know she wants a better life for me than the one she had, as well as learn from her mistakes. knowing I must first learn from my own along the way. When Ive done wrong shes showed me right and always been there when I needed her the most. The most important thing is that shes always been supportive of me and my art and pushed me even when I wanted to give up. Which I thank her for because without her I don't know how I could have done it, shes been honest and supportive though at times doubtful. Yet she still is always there for me like for college, I want to major in illustration and is sportive but scared I wont finish. She's always saying I don't like to finish but I know its because I'm lazy but when I but my heart and mind to it I can do anything, speaking from past experiences of course. Especially when it come to school, my mom has always pushed me to get better grades but i didn't push my self, till this year that is I plan to get all A's and B's with the occasional C. Because I want to at least try to make up for my previous grades and really want to go to the college of my choice. Which I know I have a pretty good chance with the help i get from my mom. <3

What effect--if any--do your parents' pasts have on your own life? Explain
My parents didn't have much of that motivation and determination that they do today. So they push me to do better in school. My mom didn't have the best childhood nor did she have the best teen years in high school. She's constantly reminding me not to get in academic assistance and to keep my grades up. She pushes me to be more open and more outspoken to people. I'm slowly catching on to that, I just take it day by day.

:B
My parents came from bad socioeconomic backgrounds. My dad, or Papi as I call him, was born and raised in Mexico City. He dropped out of school to start working in 6th grade; He later came to the United States around the age of 20. My mom, born and raised in Chicago, came from poor family on the south side, graduated from high school and later got pregnant with my brother. When my parents met, later on, they did everything possible to get a better life. In the process of chasing the "American dream" they built their morals and values which were, and still are, installed into my brother, sister, and I.
Because of the fact that my parents came from a bad background, they want the best for us; they yell at us all the time to not commit the same mistakes they did and not to follow in their paths. They want us to succeed in life and do better than they ever could. Something that my parents find very important, because of their past, is education. My ma is always telling us that when she leaves this world the only thing she's happy she could give us is an education because that's the only thing that sticks with us.

Nigera
This explains how you can never get what's really expected of yourself. This is relevant to today because people feel like they have to live up to what other people want them to be, but actually people want you to be yourself. A lot of teens have friends who they have absolutely nothing in common with, but when they see that they can have REAL friends they leave the people who really didn't mean anything.
Uhhh wasnt here, but i'll go from what Taylor told me :)
Children are basically smart enough to rule the world. I believe this is true and this can be relevant to the world today because a lot if younger children know and understand things that us older kids or adults don't. For example little kids can see ghost and many say they can talk to them, me being 17 years old can't so if something was going to happen and a younger kid knew they could tell other people and the problem can be resolved.
To Love Oneself...
To love oneself is the beginning of a lifelong romance.
I'm pretty sure I would have to consider this to be one of my favorites. :)
People always assume they need someone to love them & cherish them to feel good about themselves, but they completely ignore the fact that those same people might not stick around forever. Because honestly? It's not their job to. (And sooner or later, we're all going to have to realize that)
I believe before you even attempt or even think to say "I love you" to someone, you should make damn sure you love yourself first. I mean, if you don't even love yourself, why should someone else try to love you?
And, Yeah, I love myself haha. Sure, there's days where I go through my Episode and I get pretty damn bitter and I love to bring myself down, but that doesn't change the fact that I also love myself AND my flaws- whether they be major or minor. :)
(And honestly? Your binded to yourself, man. People come & go, but you are always stuck with you.)

Responce to Alllison's post
I agree with this proverb. "The one who listens is the one who understands" It's relevant because we have to listen to things frist in order to understand them. And those who listen to you can relate to what you are going through.
Responce to Ale's post!
I love this proverb and I think its really relevant in life. When it comes to actually considering someone a friend, friends are those who stay in your life and don't dissapear from it :D
Proverbs
"All good things come to those who wait"
This is my favorite proverb, I think anyone could apply it to themselves. What this proverb is trying to say is that we should all be patient, there's no need to rush things. And in the end good things will come to those who have been patient and waited. Many of us could experience this proverb in real life.
Liberia: The Jabo
I like this one, "The one who listens is the one who understands".... This relevents today because there are people like friends and family who can only just not listen to you but also to relate what you also are going through or went through. This is why this is my favorite some people could relate to your situation or it doesn't have to be a situation it can be something positive .

"Who ceases to be a friend never was one."
I believe this proverb is relevant today because it's something we can all apply to our life. There's also a saying that says "you can only count your true friends on only one hand" and this proverb explains it. There are many people who come into our lives, but those that leave or disappear from it shouldn't be considered "friends." I'm not saying we should all not trust another but true friends are those that stick around no matter the situation might be. I can say it's relevant in my life, especially now with my transfer.
I came to a new school and my supposed "friends" from Ignatius are now no where to be found. They're not my friends now, so it's safe to say I guess they really never were to begin with.

vida
"the best way to prepare for life is to begin to live"
i really like this prover because it really shows a message somehow,
like its true the best way to be ready for life is being ready to live it.
Go through some hard things, experience life, be ready for it. the quote speaks for itself.

Nigeria: The Yoruba
This proverb to me explains how you never know what to really expect out of everything you do and how time is precious and you should use it as much as possible but use it for good things and memories and always having something is better than havung nothing at all.
The Liberia: Jado
The proverb that I chose was The Liberia: Kabob because it deals with many people in the world that go through this everyday. For me it kind of remind me of who I am and what to do. In the story it talked about many things and how to deal with it, all countries goes through this everyday and want things to be different instead of being the same.

Liberia: The Jabo
The proverb I chose is "Liberia: The jabo". Each line talks about a different topic and has it's own meaning that relates to life. Such as in the first line which states "One who cannot pick up an ant and wants to pick up an elephant will someday see his folly". It tells us how we shouldn't try and do something big when we can't even handle the little things in life, such as take on a big load. The second quote says "The butterfly that flies among the thorns will tears its wings". So we should not hang with the wrong crowd for they will bring us down and wont be as supportive as our friends and family can be. As it goes on we read that "A man's ways are good in his own eyes" and " Daring is not strength". That something might seam ok or good in ones eyes but to another person they will have there own opinion. We shouldn't try and be "hard" because it doesn't lead to nothing good in life but more problems than before. "Children are the wisdom of the nation" and "The one who listens is the one who understands". Helps us to realize that we are the future of the world and as we get older will be so called idols to the younger generation, as well as the people who take the time to hear our voices and go out of there way for us are the people that can really and truly understand us.
"Don't walk in front of me, I may not follow. Don't walk behind me, I may not lead. Just walk beside me and be my friend". Albert Camus
I chose the proverb "Uganda: The Baganda". This proverb still relates to today because some people who have yet to go through certain things that others have or is going through fail to realize that its not easy. Anyone can say something is easy if they aren't going through it. But it takes courage to help someone and maybe change their mine about the situation seeing as though they have someone there to support them. "Where there are no dogs, the wild cats move about freely," this simply means that when there is no problems when the negativity is gone and no one is bringing you down or getting in your way, life seems a lot more easier to get through. The last line in this proverb states that "W0rds are easy but friendship is difficult," this means that saying words are easy cause all your doing is saying it, but being dedicated to a friendship or anything is hard and you have to think before you speak and mean what you say.

Sloppy :O
If I had to categorize myself I would say I'm sloppy. Although I try hard to keep my things orginized it never tends to work out that way. My locker and belongings might look like they're in order by the way things are placed but once looking into things, one would notice that not everythings is how it seems. i might have folders and bins that make things look neat, my papers are all mixed together and a mess. I like to say I have an orginized mess. The way the story was told helps me know how to structurize my own essay, and know how would be the best way to write my own. it seems to be like a guide for my writing.
@
Steph: i can totalllllllyyyyy relate to you when you say you start off neat but end up sloppy and making a mess.
Aerial: you can be neat, but that bag of yours\store can get pretty sloppy LOL

baby come home, -led zeppling
I consider myself to be sloppy, like sloppy Joe.
I can relate to the part in the easy when it talks about starting of neat but then end up being sloppy and just walking away with different piles. And to top it all off i'm the worlds greatest pack rat, i keep everything and its really hard for me to through things away, that just makes me even more sloppy. I have a whole dror full of papers, pictures, objects, nicknacks, you name it. My clothes are everywhere, i dont even fold them, my hand writing is extreamly sloppy. Sloppy is just my middle name. I TRY to be neat, but i just end up a mess.
This essay discribes more of the differences than the simililarites, and thats just how my easy shall be structured as well I'm gaffawing.

Neat or Sloppy? I'm Both!
Based on the essay that we read on Monday, i believe i'm neat and sloppy beacause I could be very neat and organized and have everything in place but then again if I need to look for something i'll destroy everything looking for it. So then again i'll just become a sloppy person beacuse I dont want to reclean something i already clean,it'll take me awhile to reclean it.
If you ever need anything, PLEASE, don't hesitate to ask someone else first.
I can honestly admit that I am a mostly sloppy being. There are times where I'm neat, but it doesn't last longer then the situation calls for. Sometimes I get so bad, I lose things that no person in their right mind would ever seem to lose. Like my pants (which I still can't find anywhere, guys). Or my shoe (that's right. ONE shoe is still out there somewhere). But I'm not so sloppy as to completely lose focus in things I'm really dedicated to. Like when I'm trying to record tracks with my band. If the song does not sound at least 98.1% perfect, I WILL most likely have a fit. Seriously.
I'm not going to be biased or anything, and say "Oh! sloppy is better then anything, because that's what I am! :D". Cause it really isn't with certain situations (or people). It's good to be neat, but ONLY to an extent. At least for me.
I've always thought being neat was too overrated, anyways. Being neat makes people all twitchy and panicked. I mean, I'm twitchy and paranoid a pinch, but for COMPLETELY different reasons then a misplaced book or a mess of papers on the floor haha. Sloppy people are, honestly, a lot more mellow then the neat ones. We take it all in stride and don't fret over the little things (or what we consider little things).
I think it's good to find a medium between both. A common ground that won't screw you or your attitude up. :)

Neat and sloppy
Based on the essay we read Monday/Tuesday, are you neat or sloppy? Which is better? How does this essay's organization and structure influence the organization/structure of your own comparison-contrast essay?
I consider myself both, a neat and sloppy person. Neat because I like being organized and having all my ideas in place but I am also not really affected in the least by disorder, I like being less stressed out and laid back and don't sweat the small stuff. I like keeping my stuff organized all the times but some days laziness hits me and BAAAM! I turn into a sloppy person and forget all about what being neat was. But the good thing about me is that I get back on track and everything that was unorganized turns out to be organized. I'm in the middle between both but some days sloppy really pulls me to be on their side. :) This essay's organization really helped me and influenced me on how to structure my own comparison-contrast essay is going to be like because you could basically talk about both but maybe agree with one more. Sometimes their is not going to be a lot of similarities between what you are trying to compare their could be more differences.

IM BOTH!
I'm both neat and sloppy because there are times that I do both things on what the essay says. There are days that I am neat, I clean making sure everything is perfect, and just throwing stuff away just like that If i don't need it. There are also days sometimes that I am sloppy too because sometimes I do just leave things on the floor or leave things not organize when I don't have time to organize them or just stack up things that I don't need. I am neat when I do have time I am sloppy when I don't have time . I think being neat is better because that way our rooms won't be like a dump. This essays organization and structure influence my organization and structure of my comparison essay by defining all the differences and similarities between both subjects.
FOR MELINDAS POST!
I agree with melinders because i am just like her i dont like having stuff thats not necessary around i like everything really well organized to find it whenever i need it for something i dont like having to look for stuff.... :)
FOR CLAUDIAS POST!
I agree with Jarritos because i like being totally neat Lol everything has to be in its place i hate being unorganized i even hang my cltohes by color! :) But i cuold have my times when im sloppy Lol

Sloppy or neat person??!?!?
I would think I am a neat person because of how I like to keep my stuff well organized and everything clean in its place. But by reading that story in class sloppy or neat. I think I am a sloppy person. Being sloppy is not bad its not like your nasty and dirty with bugs in your stuff. I still think that im sort of in the middle because i like being neat but that say neat people are lazier then sloppy people are. So i guess im both sloppy and neat because even by being neat i do consider myself lazy. :) I think that being sloppy is better cause once your neat you dont do nothing and sloppy people always are trying to do stuff to be neat.

comment for breanca
yeah breanca you are def neat..you have your little floder thing with all you papers..lol
response to kloud
You are def. neat... and all sloppy people don't wait to do things for a long time..i generally wait up to 45 mins : )
sloppy people have more fun!!!!
I would see myself as it relates to the poem as sloppy. The writer made it clear that sloppy people have more fun. It seemed like the neat people were snudy and boaring and clearly didn't care about imprtant things. Im am clean with my house and other things but when it caomes to my locker I could care less. The poem showed only differences and not similarites which is what i'm goin to do with my essay for the wooden people v. Noah.
I AM NEAT
This reason why I'm neat because I don't like my stuff being unorganized. I am a neat freak because when I see something not in order I just fix it. Its hard to think of something when I am writing an essay. I try my best to my essay be good, but when I read it, sound awful and I can see many mistake on the paper. That's why I am so neat because I like to fix everything and get it done. I hope one day I can stop being a neat freak that I can accept being sloppy. Who am I kidding, I am never going to stop being neat its in my blood.

What am I
Based on the essay we read Monday/Tuesday, are you neat or sloppy? Which is better? How does this essay's organization and structure influence the organization/structure of your own comparison-contrast essay?
I am a neat person because I have to have things in a certain place. I really can't hold on to things for long. I can't have something out of it's place. I can't really see a mess around because it will end up cleaning it up. I think that being a neat person is better because if you are sloppy person you have this clutter everything some people are disorganized and can't find things you need that are going to be helpful to you. This essay's organization help with my comparison contrast essay because you get to see what do you have more of. Do you want to do both similarities and differences or just one of them.

The story was pretty confusing but i think I'm a neat person. Because i always have to have everything in order and not have stuff laying around. I think sloppy is better from what the story is said. Because sloppy is your eventually going to get to it and neat that you have to get to it as soon an possible. I think it doesn't because where comparing two things that are kind of similar story.

In between? D;
I'm a neat person in school, but then can be a little sloppy at home. But not much! I do keep my room clean, but I seem to collect certain things at times. I do agree that neat people could be real picky and uptight about things. But i disagree about some of the flaws that that they have in the poem. I can't really decide which one I am though, because I could be both. It just depends in the day. I think the essay we are doing now is a little more difficult because the poems are so old. And they do have a lot of similarities.

Sloppy or Neat ? What am I ??
So I have to be honest I'm literally in the middle because I start out neat but always ends sloppy I try my best because neat is better and keeps me on track and I always know where things are. Until the sloppy hits, you start to see me slack off and be lazy not having a care in the world throwing things in every direction. Finally it gets to the point where I can't find a thing not even my shoes and I know its time to clean, or when I start taking the wrong books to class. The structure of the story helps me with the structure of my essay, by not having to have one paragraph all about similarities and another on differences. Widening the verity of how I can write it. Which I kind of like and helps out a lot in the end... Well for me that is.
SLOPPY!!!!!
I am a sloppy person. But I can not stand a dirty house, or bugs! EWWW! I'm not very sloppy I just tend to be lazy and want to do things on my time. Not necessarily when my parents want it done. When I get in the mood to clean up, I really clean up!
In my opinion I think being sloppy is better, but at the same time if you are neat you tend to do better in school because your organized and you know where everything is. Even though for some people being sloppy or surrounded by chaos actually help them, its like no one understands your sloppiness or neatness better than the person itself!
This essay structure helps me to realize that even though she didn't really use compare and contrast, i still was able to understand what she is saying about both neat and sloppy people. She isn't necessarily saying that they have no similarities she just didn't write about it or felt it was needed! :D

Being sloppy isn't such a bad thing after all, after reading this essay I am very proud to say that am a very unorganized person. Before reading this essay I would have hesitated to admit to that. I think being sloppy is way better then being neat person because a neat person is always wanting everything to be so perfect and is so 'neatty'. I feel like neat people stress to much and care too much of what others think. Me being a sloppy person on the other hand I just simply go with the flow and let things fall in to place as time goes. I feel like neat people have less sentimental then sloppy people because the fact that they are so neat and so perky they tend throw sentimental valued cards that are given to them like a happy birthday cards or just little stuff that is given to them just so they can have a neat room or make more space.I think the structure of the essay is trying to show the differences between two different types of people, neat and sloppy people, he begins by describing the neat people saying good things about them and then goes of talking about the bad habits of the neat people.
Sloppy Or Neat?
I am definitely a sloppy person & proud of it too. According to the essay, being sloppy is a good thing so... good! But I do agree that sloppy is better, neat people stress too much and stress the dumb little things, you only live once, stop trying to be perfect.. live a little! Sloppy people, or at least in my case, go with the flow and just let things fall in place. The structure of the essay shows the differences between the two kind of people so sets a good example on my essay. She starts off with the sloppy people and then goes off to the neat people which I like.

.....agreed or maybe it is all made up..and these are all just bed time stories passed down..
ancient people had problems
I think that most of the stories in ancient history are the same because there true. If everyone has the same incounter (example. the flood). Then something like that must have happened. since some of the stories have the same theme but different chartere's. I think that someone actually did the doin but other people wanted to seem cool so they stole the main parts of the story and inserted there name. I also think that clearly they had some problems in ancient history. Even if some of the stories are exadrated to seem cooler or because someone else added more. They still got punished by god because they did something wong..
I'm a bit off my game today, guys....
(I'm a bit off my game today. So bear with me if this makes absolutely no sense. So here we go...)
I think the reason so many ancient stories have the same ideas & themes is because all of the people and groups that have listened to the old stories eventually created their own versions of what they could remember (the moral, the storyline, etc.) and made it into their very own tale which they then told their families or friends and then the entire cycle repeats itself over & over just as in the beginning. For example, the story of creation, the flood, and stories like that.
Sometimes people keep repeating the same theme/idea because it gives them a sense of comfort or hope or some sort of stablity that can ground them- even if it's just for a little while.
I guess we can learn from the similiarities by realizing that all these stories we hear today have been around longer then we have. That we weren't the first to hear them & we probably won't be the last.

Similiarities?
I think in the ancient time there were so many similiar storeis because thier werent any stories at that time to be told or to be known of. So for the stories that were told of course their was some similarity because of maybe the people that passed that story on or even whoever it was created by.

Ancient similarities
I think that all the ancient stories from back then have the same similarties because, they were told in a way and passed on and while being past on people added little details here and there. I personally think that all ancients stories theres only one that is true and the other are just stories that people retold in there own words and changes. Like for example noahs ark and the gilgamesh story their both alike. But theres only one that is true and well i feel no one really knows which one or wo knows they can even be myths. All ancient have the same theme and ideas because their stories past on that along the way just got changed up. I learn that even stories today can be changed up adding details here and there to catch poeples attention. The truth behind a story can never really be told right or found out.

Deja vu Experience
So many ancient stories have the same ideas and themes because they share similar lessons learned and because they connect. Its like deja vu because when you heard or seen something once but sometimes you don't even know it and you do it again it connects on what you know already then you will know it. That is maybe why some stories share the same stuff which is because they want to teach you the same lesson on what you already know for the future. What we can learn from the similarities from the stories is that to keep in mine about the lessons that we learn through life just like lessons learned from the ancient stories .
What are the Similarities?
Why do you think so many of these ancient stories (Gilgamesh, Noah, etc.) have the same themes ideas? What does this say about the state of the world thousands of years ago? What can we learn from these similarities?
I think that all these stories have the same ideas and themes because majority of the stories told back then were not written down. They were told orally so they didn't have much to prove as to what was said. I think by this the state of the world thousands of years ago we still have the same themes and ideas because those are the ones that were used back then. What we can learn from these similarites is that stories from back then still exist today because the majority of the stories that are being told today have the same problems and solutions to them.

Why do you think so many of these ancient stories (Gilgamesh, Noah, etc.) have the same themes and ideas? What does this say about the state of the world thousands of years ago? What can we learn from these similarities?
These ancient stories get better and better over time as they are told or written. There is always something that changes or adds in the stories. A lot of these stories relate to each other in a way. I think that is why they always seem to come back to each other. This says that we can't really say that the ancient stories were real. Nobody knows, it's a mystery. Maybe it happened, maybe it didn't. But we all get an idea of what might happened in the stories. We can learn that even today when we tell stories verbally or write them down some where, they will be told or written down differently in the future. Just like the Gilgamesh and Noah stories. Things will get passed on from generation to generation differently later on.

"Dejavu"
We will never know exaclty why stories have the same ideas and themes. But we can assume that all these stories where passed down to generation to generation by word of mouth. When telling stories verbally we notice that they seam to change over time not always being told as it was when it first was told. From this we can learn that if things from back then where being repeated before stories where written down that maybe its showing us how life can be predicted at some points in time. That maybe its just the cycle of life repeating its self till our time on the planet is up, and will start over once more to others that will be asking the same question we are being asked today. Why is it that when we look back on the past it reflects on the future and that many have experienced the same or similar? We might never know now will we.... will we...
"Rewind"
I think many stories often repeat because people have different points of view. Also, because everyone has a side to a story. Even though we aren't there to actually witness the situation when it occurs we still can imagine what the writer is saying. It also is the state of believing in something. Even though the stories were WAYYYYY before our time, you'd be surprised at how many things that goes on now may have already happened in the past. EVERYONE has their version of a story or situation and its left up to us to use oral tradition so that we can pass down things that we have all learned. That might help someone one day, never know!
Different Stories, Same ideas.
Why do you think so many of these ancient stories (Gilgamesh, Noah, etc.) have the same themes and ideas? What does this say about the state of the world thousands of years ago? What can we learn from these similarities?
Often when we read ancient stories we come across the same ideas over and over again. Some might be more interesting than others, and some can be completely boring. The main characters are usually gods or humans. They fall into the same categories and the themes often repeat. I think many of these ancient stories have the same themes and ideas because everything that happened in the past was similar, for example the gods that were all powerful and did something to amuse the rest. If we take a look at stories that exist now their is also some similarities in them. Ideas that repeat, with the same characteristics. What this says about the state of the world thousands of years ago is that not a lot of things have changed. We could learn from these similarities is that many stories could be the same, the people who write the stories could have the same themes and ideas and still could switch it up a little.

I DON'T KNOW BUT LET'S FOUND OUT
The reason why all the stories have the same theme and ideas because they have something in common with each other and like they have a connection with each other that have something to do with there stories, like when you read a different book and keep think about why they the same words in each book that tells me it continues with other stories. It tells me it will keep on telling the same thing until people get it that the stories will be doing this for a long time. We can learn from this similarities is never come up with the same theme and idea be careful when you come up with a stories because someday it will happen.

Tell Meeeeeeeeee............Why things repeat :)
I think a lot of ancient stories have the same themes because we really never know what the truth is and when stories are told by mouth then things can get switched up then eventually go back to how they were in the beginning. This says that basically the way things were thousands of e how things are now. People say things always come back and by the stories it does. We can learn that every thing goes back to how they use top be if it comes to it, and that no matter what stories are going to be retold in different or the same ways.
(:
Why do you think so many of these ancient stories (Gilgamesh, Noah, etc.) have the same themes and ideas? What does this say about the state of the world thousands of years ago? What can we learn from these similarities?
I think they have the same kind of ideas because every ancient story is told orally and well through out time it some what changes it might be the name of the "characters" or the time it took place or where it took place. The Noah story about him and his family survived an enormous global flood. Obviously, to thinkers worldwide this story is logically to be considered an impossible 'fable', not history but then again have you heard of the quote that says "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.", well history has been repeating itself in my opinion with the whole flood when Hurricane Katrina happened in New Orleans. Yes we can learn from all of these similarities, we can learn what to do in those type of situations we can also learn how things were back then.

A favorite saying of one of my history teachers was "history always repeats itself;" there might be different circumstances each time but essentially it's all the same. These ancient stories may seem the same is, since they're taught orally, people hear these stories and apply it to their own lifetime. In order to do so, they tweak the stories and adjust them to how it would be relevant to their time period, religion, and culture. It's a good thing people have done this because we get to learn about how different societies in different parts of the world were. An example would be the flood in both Gilgamesh and the Book of Genesis; One being from Mesopotamian literature and the other from Christian scripture. They were both events that happened because of man's wrong doing and to rid the world of all that was considered bad. Also, the Quran has a story in it that tells about a great flood brought by Allah. Although we don't necessarily know if all accounts are 100% true, they do have a similar concept: the flood. The flood that saved all animals and the few people that were aboard. We can assume there was some type of natural occurrence that had such an impact that they're stories all over the world with it's example in it.

I think they have the same ideas because everything is like happening all over again. Like the one we read in the book about the flood and that was before Christ and then years later that happened again. Si i think history is just repeating itself. It says about the state years ago that everything in history happens all over. Everything was the same years ago. It can help us learn how things were years ago.

Telefono.
I think that ancient stories have the same ideas because, people are just so use to hearing and listening to them all the time it basically became a tradition of some sort. Re-telling the story over over and over again. What this shoes about the state of the world thousands of years ago is that not a lot has changed?
and what we can learn is that we can ALWAYS mix it up a little and be as created as possible, and maybe our stories can be told and re told in a thousands of years.

What are the characteristics of an effective leader? Whom do you consider to be a leader? Why?
The characteristics of an effective leader in my opinion is the main one to have leadership obviously, being able to guide people is a big part of leadership. I think having leadership means you don't judge anyone, you have patience and understandable.A person who is able to take on responsibility for his or her actions is being a leader as well. A leader to me is my father because he is always there to guide me and always wanting the best for me. He is always there for me to hear me out any day anytime. He shows me whats right and whats wrong. He's been there from day one even when I managed to fail on him.

What are the characteristics of an effective leader? Whom do you consider to be a leader? Why?
One characteristic of an effective leader, to me, is a person who is willing to lead without any expecting any compensation for his or her services. A person who willing does the actions, not for his own benefit, but for the benefit of others. Another characteristic is a person who does not judge others on their past actions and accepts a person for who they are and for what they bring to the table. A person who is able to take on responsibility for his or her actions and how to confront people when something is not completed. Someone who can take charge in any given situation and incorporate everyone else in his or her decisions.
A person I believe to be a leader would be Kanye West, in a way. With his music and his words he is able to reach out to society and pull up an issue not many are able to speak up and talk about. One issue is the Blood Diamond trade going on in Africa. He dedicated a whole song called "Diamonds from Sierra Leon" to speak about the subject.
O SO YOU THINK YOU HAVE LEADER SWAG.
A leader is someone who is responsible. A person that can make mistakes and then fix them after admitting that they made that mistake. A person that can stand up for a change and once they stand up for that change theydon't change there mind because someone told them to. An example of a leader is Becca Noonan. She makes sure everything is in place. People listen to her and come to her for advice she is wise and multi-talented. She has leadership swag.
A leader to me..
The characteristics of a leader to me is someone who is wise, smart, stands up for what they believe in, respectful, outgoing, and most important someone who does not judge others for what they do. To me a kleader can show their leadership and show that they are willing to take the risk. A leader to me is you being able to count on that one person you can talk to about anything and they will be right there to listen and give you the advice you need to hear. A person I could consider to be a leader is my dad why becuase he is all those things I mentioned. He has been there for me through anything I needed.
Response To Claudia's post
This is a response to Claudia's post since its not letting me comment on other people's post.
I agree with all your characteristics of a leader. Someone that is strong and has a courage could be consider a leader because they need to stand up for what they believe and never give up no matter how difficult it might get.

Martin Luther King Jr.
The first person that came to my mind when I saw the word leader was Martin Luther King Jr. He is one of the greatest leaders the world has ever know. Great leaders know how to say the right thing at the right time. Great leaders inspire people around them to become better. People want to do their best because of their leadership. Martin Luther King Jr was very self-motivated, he knew their was going to be ups and downs in his life but he always knew what he was doing. He was always positive about himself and what he was doing. He inspired me to never give up in what I believe.
A leader?
I believe an effective leader is someone whose patient yet strong enough to tell someone where to go when they know things aren't right.Someone who knows what exactly they are fighting for, and someone who knows when to shut up and let others state their opinions/remarks/beliefs/world view, instead of butting in every 2 seconds to say something against it. Guys, People have different opinions/beliefs/views on different matters. Build a damn bridge and please, get over it. :)

Leadership!
The characteristics of a effective leader are different because there are leaders who talk more about what problems we are having, more out-spoken, more in control, who is willing to take ideas, and confident. There are leaders who are sometimes not that much into control, not that outspoken, who is not willing to take ideas from other people and not that confident. I don't know who are the real leaders, but i do know that real leaders are those who take risks, who believe what is right and what is wrong, who will protect and who will change the community or society. Real leaders will do anything.

Leaders?
In my opinion i believe a leader is someone who can stand up for themselves, very outspoken an someone who is okay just to be themselves, and especially someone that can also help others without habing anything in return. There are many people who i think can stand for being a leader, many people at Tepeyac show they are leaders.
Leader
What are the characteristics of an effective leader? Whom do you consider to be a leader? Why?
There are many things that are consider to be a leader. To me it means someone who is strong, polite, funny, smart, and has the courage to stand up for whats right and wrong. Someone who knows the different between a good decision and a bad one. Someone who does not follow the crowd and has a mind of there own. A leader is someone who does there best no matter what. Someone who does good deeds knowing there's not going to be a reward at the en of the day. I considered to be a leader is my father. Hes a hard worker puts hes family before anything. Strong, and has a lot of courage.

Effective leader,

COURAGE! strength, humility, responsibility, and faith are some of the characteristic that a leader should have. This is the way i see it, a leader needs to have courage in order speak out, when he or she feels its necessary. They courage to take action and if necessary maybe a drastic action. Leaders need strength to keep them together, they need to be responsible; show and set the example to others. A leader needs to be humble; they need to see them selves as someone that looks up to them; and not think that their all that because people look at them that way, not get all cocky, they need to be understanding in a way. And last and final they need faith, first they need faith in them selves (if they don't have faith in their selves then who will?) and then others. With out faith they wont be believers, dreamers or wont really have that attitude to get things done and done right.

The people that i believe are leaders are System of Down.
They speak out in a way that they use their musical talents, they give out a messages to the people. And they set out their own examples. They are straight forward with their fans and followers and that's just something great about them. And plus they're like one on my ultimate favorite band ;)
