America slaughtered true humor :D

The Importance of Being Earnest is a comedy of manners, mostly because it pokes fun at the society it was written for.
It's not a "laugh like a moron" type of play, it's a "giggle because you get what Oscar Wilde was actually trying to say" kind of play -_- . And people would do well in actually remembering that once in awhile.

It's a real giggle-worthy play when you honestly understand and pay attention to what's going on instead of taking 15 different breaks just to explain something to a group of people that aren't even really paying attention to anything, in the end. :)

*sigh* it's "hilarious".... -______-

Look, I don't think it's funny it's actually boring but the matter of the act is, he's making fun of the stuck up people in that era and how stupid and ridiculous their "properness" was. Like when the aunt was asking jack about his family, all she cared about was his last name and the fact the he didnt know his father. I have no idea what satirizing is so sure it's "satirizing".

Earnest!!!!

How is The Importance of Being Earnest a
"comedy of manners"? Is this play actually funny? What is Wilde satirizing?
I think is a comedy of manner because is comedy and it has manners. Because is comedy in just like a certain type of group, in like the upper class. Is somewhat funnny. Like "ha,ha,ha" funny; not much if "HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA" funny. Like dry humorr, you really have to be catching all the jokess. He is criticing how one small lie can totally commit something really big.

I only know to laugh because of Noona

How is The Importance of Being Earnest a
"comedy of manners"? Is this play actually funny? What is Wilde satirizing?

The book is actually pretty funny. If it was more modernized it would be hilarious. The funny part is that everyine is starting to get caught in the jack/earnest lie. But when I don't know whats going on I only know that its semi-funny because Noonan laughs. If it wasnt for her I wouldn't know that a joke is taking place.

I don't know.... Let me think about it

YThe Importance of Being Earnest a comedy of manners is that it have lots of energy to it and I could not stop laughing at it. When you read a lot more and you get the joke it'll make you laugh. The play is actually funny because I thought it was going to be stupid and boring but when we were acting out of the play it was really funny. Wilde satizingis when he's trying to be more romantic and good looking.
How is The Importance of Being Earnest a "comedy of manners"? Is this play actually funny? What is Wilde satirizing?

I think this play is actually funny but only sometimes. If you really understand whats going on it will be funny for you. But some parts that are suppose to be funny, really don't make me laugh. This is a piece of literature for the Victorian era which is based on realism and not romanticism. So it tries to focus more on whats happening everyday.

Hahahaha.....i dont get it lol

The importance of being earnestis a comedy of manners by the adult humor which others can barely understand. I myself don't really get it that much when it comes to the humor. The book is not that funny because like i said i cannot really understand it but i sometimes i do when somebody explains it to me. Wilder is satirizing when he is making fun of the people being romantic.

Two Faced?? Lol Ernest JACK

How is The Importance of Being Earnest a "comedy of manners"? Is this play actually funny? What is Wilde satirizing?

I think that its important because its was gives the story interesting stuff. It leaves readers like what just happen and confused its funny. Its funny that Jack/ Ernest is living to life's saying he has a twin. Hes one person when he travels and another at hes own home. Is funny cause cecily is in love with Ernest. But she has never met him before. She wants to meet him but Jack says that he has passed away. And she answered that he was in the next room. Jack was in shock Lol. All the mix ups in the story is was makes it interesting.

Ahaha! :]

How is The Importance of Being Earnest a "comedy of manners"? Is this play actually funny? What is Wilde satirizing?

The importance of being Ernest a "comedy of manners" because the whole story behind him being Ernest but Jack at the same time because so many people believe that Ernest is a real person when he actually isn't. And it's funny because Cecily is in love with him but doesn't know him or actually met the man in person. Also how they say he did but another says he's in the next room so it's a bit confusing but funny.

Ohhhh Weeeeee :)

How is The Importance of Being Earnest a "comedy of manners"? Is this play actually funny? What is Wilde satirizing?

The Importance of Being Earnest if a comedy of manner because it is about a bunch of old, rich, white people that does not take anything serious what so ever. I think that this play is actual funny because it is kind of how Tepeyac is, like how us girls never really take anything serious unless we really care about it. The characters in this play did not take anything serious but food and lies.

ha,

This play is funny because its dry comedy and only certain people get whats going on. and the things they talk about in the importance of being earnest is plain, dry, true humor. If you pay attention and get what your reading it helps to understand and get the play more. enjoy it..

Comedy Central HAHAHAAHHAHA :D

Actually it is quite funny! I think that's why I enjoy reading this particular book. Its a mixture of both comedy and it ties into a bit of reality and seriousness. Algernon ridicules marriage, love and the mentality of the Victorian aristocratic society. Aunt Augusta wasn't going, she didn't approve the fact that Jack/Ernest wanted to marry her daughter. I think the fact that he told her that he was found in a box through everything off.

:)

The importance of being Earnest a comedy manners would be social criticism because he is making fun of how the victorian society acts. Yes I do think this play is some what funny. An example of Wilde satirizing is like when he makes fun of people being romantic and when he was being sarcastic when he said all of his friends practiced proposing.

;3

The story is a "Comedy of Manners" because it blatantly makes fun of the Victorian society. It's funny because of it's absurdity and strangeness but when looked down upon closely, it tells the story of a real society that is so caught up with it's own righteousness and how they act ridiculous. Wilde is satirizing all of the hypocrites within the Victorian era.

Victorian Era :)

The time period I decided on would have to be the Victorian Era. Because if your going to write a research paper, it may as well be about the topic you actually like, y'know?

And the pieces of literature I plan on involving in my paper are still pretty much up in the air at the moment, so I can't really answer this question just yet. :)

Comment for Steph

I like the classical poetry also, especially elephants in the dark. It lets us see how we know nothing without light.

Comment for Claud

Ive so heard of this poem before, ithink it's good choice for you.

Renaissance and Reormation

I've chosen to do the Renaissance and Rerormation. The piece of literature I picked is Romeo and Juilet. I picked this not only because I, undercoverally, love shakespseare but because I love this play.

Comment for Yvette

Niceeeee pick!!! I liked that story it was very interesting.

Modern Literature

I'm doing modern literature because I didn't like none of the other ones and this was the best choice I guess. I started to read E.E Cummings poetry and literature and I fell in love with it and he's from that era so BAM! Modern literature it is!

Modern

Which time period have you chosen for your research paper? Which piece of
literature from that time period will you examine?

I've chosent the modern timee.because you know its modern. A poem about a lady and her daughter. How the mother dosent want the daughter to turn into a princess because then the mother would not be able to spend time with her daughter.

rumi,

Comment for Allison

thats a great topic and I like the poem that you chose mainly because of the song. And I didnt know that there was an actual poem behind the song.

Yeah so I forgot What I have

So I legit forgot which time period that I am doing. I think it is the Reniassance time period (if i spelled that correct). But I know the piece of literature that I am doing is a sonnet by Shakespere (if I spelled his name corect).

Ancient literature

My research paper is going to be one the ancient classical literature. It takes place from 3000 BCE to 1400 CE. Its a really interesting topic their stories are great. The story that I will be using is Gilgamesh story.

Ancient/Classical Literature (3000 BCE-1400 CE)

For my research paper I will be doing "elephant in the dark" from our text book I really liked it pretty much how its straight to the point somewhat short and its kind of like a puzzle. How the people all have there opinions on what they think is there with them in the dark, By using nothing but there 5 scenes. I cant wait to learn more :D

Comment for Tina

Yea your right about the part that a lot of the romanticism has sometimes nothing to do with love but it does involve a lot of other good emotions which is very interesting.

comment for ariel

That's cool your topic will be interesting.

*_*

I chose the Romantic Period because I love all the revolutions that occur within that time period and that it's basically the time of imagination. The piece of literature that I'm going to use is Frankenstein by Percy Shelly.

Romanticism ( 1790-1830)

I chose romanticism because I like the subject of love. When I read a poem so romantic it makes me fall in love with such great literature it has. The literature I will be examining is (" The Lotus Flower "). When I read the poem it has that sweet literature every girl wants in reality.

Friday, January 20, 2012

THE MIDDLE AGES ( 500 CE-1000 CE)

The time period I have chosen for my research paper is the Middle Ages. (500 CE-1000 CE) The time period that I will examine is called The Grail because I want to learn about how it starts and why its important.

:)

I have chosen the time period Renaissance and Rerormation simply because this topic interested me. The piece of lit that I decided to pick was the Romeo and Juliet from shakespseare because I love romantic story's.

Which time period have you chosen for your research paper? Which piece
of literature from that time period will you examine?
The time period I've chosen is the Victorian age. (1831 -1901) This
time period seemed very intresting for me because their literature
tends to come closer to daily life. The piece of literature that I
will examine is called "How do I love thee" by Elizabeth Barret
Browning.

Ancient/ Classical Literature (3000BCE- 1400CE)

For my research paper I will be examining the writings of Rumi. I really enjoyed reading his literature and excited to learn more about him.

Neither impress me much buuuut....

I don't really like either, in all honestly (I'm more inclined to aestheticism).
But to choose between both, I would say Romanticism.
I'm not very...fond of it but I do like that half of the time it has practically nothing to do with love and all that happy stuff that goes along with it, but the imagination in it's entirety. :)

It wasn't all about the lovey dovey, it was about how the inner workings of your imagination and views could show who you are and how everything is without adding on literal terms and facts.

Which time period do you prefer--Romanticism or Neoclassicism? Why?

I prefer Romaticism because it uses a lot of imagination and it expresses emotion. It emphasizes a love of nature.  I like how it talks about how diferent people view nature, it is very intresting and the literature could actually help you picture what the writer is trying to express.

I chose romanticism ...

I chose Romanticism because I like how there poems are quiet romantic like lovey dovey. They still talk about love and cute stuff but change it up with nature stuff. I like how in the poems they express their feelings emotions and love. But it's replaced by nature it's really cute. Not all poems have yo be super romantic down to the point lovey stuff.

Saturday, January 14, 2012

Romanticism ;-)

The time period I chose is romanticism because I just like the author's expression, emotions, and their ways of love. Also by describing their love with things like flowers or the sky for example if u know what I mean.

Romanticism (think i spelled it wrong)

Okay, i say romanticism because one it talks about nature. And me and nature like eachother. Like the way the sun makes it way up is the way the moon makes it way down. And nature is something you never really talk about in English class. Also because romanticism is not all about that lovy dovy stuff. Like "baby i love you" is so common that you don't know who actually means it or not. But romanticisn is about that; about acutally expressing yourself and meaning what you say without getting all lovy dovy stuff.

ooh la la ;D

Hmm, I'm going to go with Romanticism.
I'M GLAD TO KNOW THAT NOT ALL POEMS HAVE TO BE ROMANTIC as in lovey dob bey EVEN WHEN YOU SAY ITS A ROMANTIC POEM!!
Not all poems have to be all uh roses are red violets are blue bla bla bla bla so are you.
Violets aren't even blue, they're purple -______-
But anyway, I like how for Romanticism, you have more emotions for it, it describes more to it.
ya feel me?
OKAY BYE,

Romanticism :D

I have to say Romanticism because I feel it was artistic, romantic, how it talked about about nature and such. while not exactly getting off topic tying it all together, there is nothing ells I can really say.

Tuesday, January 10, 2012

Romanticism :)

I choose Romanticism because these specific poems focus on the negativity but still finds away to tie in actual things that are romantic. It causes you to look deeper into what the author is talking about and how vital it is to understand. It could also be quite entertaining.
