How is The Importance of Being Earnest a "comedy of manners"? Is this play actually funny? What is Wilde satirizing?
The importance of being Ernest a "comedy of manners" because the whole story behind him being Ernest but Jack at the same time because so many people believe that Ernest is a real person when he actually isn't. And it's funny because Cecily is in love with him but doesn't know him or actually met the man in person. Also how they say he did but another says he's in the next room so it's a bit confusing but funny.
Your right sometimes it gets confusing and then understanding a little more
