Faith and religion

In what ways do faith and/or religion play an important role in The Color of Water? Use specific examples from the text.
Faith and religion both play an important role in The Color of Water. Ruth always talks about the importance of religion and how much she believes in god. In the book they mention how they go to church sunday mornings and their mom expects them to be in their best behavior. Ruth does try her best to answer question James has all the time about God, for example James asked her what color was God and Ruth responded the question by saying that God was the color of water. Faith plays an important role when they face some difficulties because of their skin color/ race they all have faith that they are the same as others and have no differences.

  1. I agree with Jess :)
Ruth needed her faith and her religion to keep her hopes alive when people would throw slurs at her and her children just because of who they are.
