FAITH AND RELIGION
Faith and religion is related to in color water when James mother is Jewish because she was born and raise with her entire life. Many families are like that because some people are very religious and want everything to be in the family. For example Rachel and her family are Jewish but they live a rough town and the kids go to Jewish school to learned something but hate to learn about it. Not all families are like that because they don't care about their faith and religion only they care about is happiness like color in the water that's how Rachel feel about her kids with their happiness.

They both play a role in the book because the family needs faith to know that they will make it through the obstacles.But inorder to have faith you have to have something you believe in. which is a religion, no matter how much your characters were being judged they still went to a black christian church.
