The internal conflict in Eveline is her indecision on whether she should leave and start a new life with someone who loves & respects her, or stay where she is, fulfilling her promise, but being completely miserable in the end.
I guess I agree a bit with her decision because yes, she was being honorable & all that genuine good stuff everyone goes on about but in all honestly, I would've left and in my opinion, she probably should've have left, too.
Yeah, she promised something, and a promise should be kept, no matter what, but if it's between a promise that might just kill your spirit and the chance to be truly freakin' happy for the rest of your life, I'd choose being happy over some promise, anyday.
(Granted, I rarely ever make promises....but that doesn't matter.)
