The Color of Water.

Faith plays a strong role in the book because of how James mother tries to
get all of her children to go to school and college. She doesn't give up on them: she believes in them. And how her husband died, that played strong role in all of her children's lives. But she didn't let that stop her from having faith in them to go to school. Religion is a huge thing in the book because of the two different races going on. This relates back to the title of the book "The Color of Water", and how James viewed God. His mom tries to explain to him how God lives in you and he is whatever you see him as.
